College Plans

  • There are several ways a student can be considered college-ready for the State of Texas. Students can demonstrate college, career, or military readiness be earning minimum scores on national college entrance exams, completing college-level courses in high school, or earning a qualifying industry credential. There are several resources available to parents & students to prepare for life after high school.

  • AP College Board

Advanced Placement (AP) courses provide college-level coursework for high school students. AP courses follow the content and curricular objectives established by the College Board. AP courses do receive additional weight in the calculation of grade point average. All students enrolled in AP courses are expected to take the College Board AP Exam for that course in May. You can use this tool to find colleges that offer credit or placement for AP scores.

  • PSAT

Taking the PSAT/NMSQT encourages Rockwall ISD high school students to start thinking seriously about life after high school, about their preferred college & career goals, & about the post-high school education students will need to achieve those goals.  The PSAT/NMSQT has been designed to mirror the SAT & provides students with a detailed score report to show individual strengths & weaknesses pertaining to college readiness.  All Rockwall ISD 10th & 11th grade students will have the opportunity to take the Digital PSAT/NMSQT free of charge at their home campus on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.  All students will be automatically registered to take the PSAT on this date.

  • Dual Credit

Dual credit courses allow a high school student to earn high school AND college credit in one class. Rockwall ISD offeres dual credit courses through the Collin College dual credit program at GBCCA.

  • SAT

The SAT is a standarized assessment that provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate their readiness to do college-level academic work.  This is a timed competitive college-entrance exam that students take prior to college admittance. Typically, this exam is taken in the spring of their Junior year.  Rockwall ISD will schedule all 11th-grade students to take the Digital SAT School Day free of charge at their home campus on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.  All students will be automatically registered to take the SAT on this date.  If that date does not work for you, you can register for the SAT at this link.

  • UTA OnRamps

OnRamps is an innovative dual enrollment and professional development initiative led by The University of Texas at Austin (UT).  OnRamps is dedicated to preparing high school students for postsecondary student success.  You can find more information at this link.

  • ACT

The ACT is similar to the SAT but is organized differently in that it assesses students on their mastery of high school curriculum.  This is a timed competitive college-entrance exam that students take prior to college admittance.  Typically, this exam is taken in the spring of their Junior year.  You can register for the ACT at this link.
