The Utley MS Symphonic Band and Honors Band performed at the UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest at Wylie East HS where they received an overall second division, or “Excellent” rating on both their stage and sight-reading performances.
For most students in the Symphonic Band, this trip was their first time participating at UIL.
The Utley Honors Band received first division ratings from all six judges, earning the coveted Sweepstakes Award, UIL Music’s highest award. This is the Honor Band’s fourth Sweepstakes.
UIL Concert and Sight Reading is the official state assessment for band which gives students the opportunity to demonstrate their mastery of skills. Ensembles perform in two different events for a panel of judges to receive a rating based on their performance for each event.
