The Strategic Planning Design Team, made up of community stakeholders such as business leaders, teachers, administrators and students, recently spent two days developing strategic plan goals for Rockwall ISD.

“We have full collaboration from our business community, parents and staff who are providing excellent feedback,” said Superintendent Dr. John Villarreal.  “They have passion for our Rockwall ISD students and I appreciate their commitment to excellence for our kids.”

The design team uses data from focus groups, surveys and summits to determine what the community wants from Rockwall ISD.

Over the course of the two days, the team will develop fundamental beliefs, create a call to action and a learner profile and determine what areas the district can grow and improve.  Learner outcomes will be created to define what the community wants from all students, illustrating what skills students should be developing.

“We’ve heard from some great students who are articulate through the process about their passions and their realities,” said Dr. Villarreal. “The team is able to merge ideas about where they want to go along with what our students are saying, leading us to better align with what we need to do as a district.”

By the end of the two-day session, goals will be finalized, creating the launching pad for making everything actually happen.  The next step in this process will involve a subset of the design team who will look at all the goals developed and determine how to make them happen over the next five years.
