Rockwall ISD Breaks Ground on New Dobbs Elementary School
Rockwall ISD held a groundbreaking ceremony for Dobbs Elementary School on Friday, March 10. The new school is scheduled to open in August 2018.
"This marks a special moment in the history of Rockwall ISD and our community," said Superintendent Dr. John Villarreal. “It is with great pride that we celebrate today’s groundbreaking ceremony for our school district and community but most importantly for the children who will walk its halls.”
In attendance were Rockwall ISD Board of Trustees, Rockwall ISD staff, representatives from VLK Architects and Lewis Construction, namesakes Mrs. Sharon Shannon, Mrs. Linda Lyon and the daughter of Howard Dobbs, Mrs. Betty Dobbs Watkins. Also in attendance were officials representing the following groups: Lori Grinnan from Congressman John Ratcliffe's office, State Representative Justin Holland, City of Rockwall Mayor Pro Tem Mike Townsend, City Council Member Scott Milder, City manager Rick Crowley and David Magness and Lee Gilbert from Rockwall County.
Dobbs Elementary first opened in 1970 and has undergone three additions over its lifetime to increase the size of the facility. The new two-story school is approximately 93,000 square feet designed for a capacity of 765 students.
