Parents Honor Shannon ES Staff for Autism Awareness Month for Their Roles in Child’s Life

Parents Honor Shannon ES Staff for Autism Awareness Month for Their Roles in Childs Life

At the annual Teachers Appreciation Dinner, hosted by the National Autism Association of North Texas, Lucia and Barry Lingo chose to honor the staff of Shannon Elementary who play a role in their son Ryan’s education.

“Our sweet boy has Autism and has been blessed to be surrounded by this phenomenal group of educators,” said Lucia Lingo, Ryan’s mother.  “They not only support his needs, but show him love, compassion, understanding and most of all respect.”

April is Autism Awareness month and Ryan’s parents wanted to make sure they brought awareness to autism and honor those who impact his life at school.

Ryan’s parents chose to honor Mr. Pesek, principal at Shannon ES; Tammy Gurss, instructional assistant; Robin Shaddix, diagnostician; Jodi Trast, speech therapist; Jewel Latham, occupational therapist and Lauren Atkins, Ryan’s teacher.

“We wanted to ensure that they were celebrated on a day that not only is meant to bring Awareness to Autism, but also allows us to reflect on the wonderful milestones achieved, and the people that have supported such accomplishments,” said Lucia.
