Rochell Ranger Star Steppers

Rochell Elementary has a new after school activity available for students. Staff member, Chasity Montgomery, formed Rochell's first ever Step Team this semester. She answered some questions about it.

What is Step?

Step is a form of art and dance.

What gave you the idea to for a Step Team at Rochell?

I started the Step Team to develop self-confidence, pride and leadership skills in students that feel that they don't have confidence or pride in themselves.

How do the students feel about having a Step Team at Rochell?

I believe the students love it and are enjoying it.

Will the students perform anywhere?

We have a performance on March 6th at Billie Stevenson Elementary at 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm during halftime for basketball games. For Rochell students and staff we will perform on May 3rd at 2:00 pm at Rochell.

How often do you practice?

We practice every Monday and Thursday from 3:15-4:00 pm.

Who choreographs the routines?

I do.

Do you have a background in Step or Dance?

Yes. I grew up in Garland ISD and participated in Pep Squad in 8th grade. I joined my schools Step Team in 9th grade. I made co-captain of the Step Team in 11th grade and captain in 12th grade.
