We believe that everything is possible at J.W. Williams Middle School and that together we will continue to experience great successes with our students, staff, and parents. WMS fosters a learning environment that philosophically is driven by the beliefs that:
* All children can and will learn
* All needs of all children will be met
* Respect and dignity will be demonstrated for and by everyone.
J.W. Williams Middle School serves 7th and 8th grade students with an enrollment of 813. Our staff is exceptional; our student population is motivated, eager to learn, and actively participates in the learning process and a wide variety of extracurricular activities; and our parents are supportive in every sense of the word.
In recognition of his 17 years as superintendent, J.W. Williams Middle School is named in honor of distinguished educator, Jimmy Williams.
After tenures as science teacher and coach in his home town of Bogata and in Commerce, Williams came to Rockwall in 1969 to serve as principal of the junior high school. He advanced to the position of superintendent of schools in 1972 and led the district through a period of unprecendented growth and accomplishment.
Under his leadership enrollment tripled, and the district was involved in a constant building program. The instructional program was expanded and strengthened with a persistent emphasis on innovation and academic excellence. Williams also encouraged excellence in extracurricular programs such as athletics, band, drill team, fine arts, and especially in University Interscholastic League academic competitions. He made “what’s best for the students” his number one priority and he leaves behind a rich legacy of integrity and professionalism.
