A special message from our principal, Steven Pesek:
I am so excited to be the principal of Shannon Elementary for the 2016-2017 school year. I look forward to getting to know you and your children. As we wind up this year I wanted to introduce myself and tell you a little more about me.
I was born in Shiner, Texas, but moved to Fredericksburg, Texas when I was four years old. My father was a middle school principal and my mother was a middle school math teacher. I graduated from Southwest Texas University (Texas State University) with a Math and Kinesiology degree and then worked in a couple districts in the Hill Country area until I met my wife Liz, who is a Rockwall High School alumnus.
We married and moved to Rockwall in 2006 where I started to teaching and coaching at Rockwall Heath High School. While working at RHHS, I received my Masters in Educational Administration from Lamar University and started my administrative career. This is also where I was able to start moving through the district working with several of our amazing leaders. I worked at Amy Parks Elementary as an assistant principal, Cain Middle School as an assistant principal, and most recently, at Rockwall Heath High school as an Associate Principal.
As I mentioned, I am married to an amazing woman, Liz, and we have two beautiful girls. Grace will be a third grader at Springer Elementary, where my wife teaches kindergarten. Maggie is four years old and can’t wait to join her big sister and mom at Springer in another year.
I look forward to meeting you and learning more about everyone who makes Shannon such a great school.
A special message from our assistant principal, Melanie Acker:
I am beyond thrilled to be the 2016-17 assistant principal at Shannon Elementary. Being an educator, motivator, and encourager is my passion and I look forward to working with the wonderful students and families at Shannon.
I graduated in 2006 from Texas A&M-Commerce with a Bachelors in Elementary Education. I later received my Masters of Science in Counseling from the same university and then obtained my Administration certification from Stephen F. Austin University. I began my teaching career as a Kindergarten teacher and later became a 1st grade dual language teacher and middle school counselor, all within Forney ISD. I went on to be an elementary counselor in Dallas ISD and then made my way to the amazing Rockwall ISD in 2013 as an 8th grade counselor and then assistant principal. I am impressed with the high quality teachers, students, leaders, and families in Rockwall and feel blessed to be a part of this district.
I have been married to my wonderful husband, Joey (who is an elementary PE teacher) for 10 years. We have two kids that bring us so much joy and definitely keep us on our toes. Grayson Luke is 8 and will start 3rd grade and Ella Grace is 6 and will start 1st grade this upcoming school year.
I am eager to meet all of the students and families at Shannon and look forward to serving our campus.
