Track and Field - Men

  • 2017-2018

    Founders Park Cross-Country Meet:

    • The varsity boys had a good meet ending this week in 4th place.  
    • Freshmen River Hill was the top finisher for the varisty boys in a new personal record of 16:58 finishing in 9th place.  
    • Other top finishers for the boys were Jack Hittson-Smith (16th, 17:11), and Austin Shumake (19th, 17:22).  
    • JV boys finished in 13th.  We had many success and they are running better each week.  

     



    2016-2017

     

    The Varsity and JV teams competed in district competition this past couple of weeks.

    • JV boys placed 5th overall as a team.  
    • Varsity Boys placed 8th overall as a team.

     

    JV Individual recognitions :

    • Jared Pugh - 3rd in 3200 M. Run
    • Jaxon Smith - 3rd in 110 Hurdles
    • Michael Taylor - 1st in High Jump
    • Xavier Underhill - 1st in Pole Vault

     

    Varsity District Individual Area Qualifiers (Top 4 Advance to Area Apr. 20 in Mesquite)

    • Jager Mundheim - 2nd in Discus
    • Caleb Estes - 3rd in Discus
    • Damon Lewis - 2nd in 800 & 4th in 1600 M. Runs
    • Noah Sewell - 2nd in Pole Vault & 3rd in 110 Hurdles
    • Riley Stewart - 3rd in Pole Vault

     

     


    On Friday (3/10/17) the Jackets Track & Field team took part in the annual Longview Lobo Relays.  This meet pitted some traditionally good track and field programs throughout the East Texas Region.  Our athletes went over and competed well in many events and several of the kids set personal best marks in their performances.  

    Individual performance recognitions:

    • Brayden Ortiz - personal best in the 1600 meters of 5:07.21 a 1 second improvement.
    • Joseph Martin - personal best in the 1600 meters of 5:09.23 a 6 second improvement.
    • Cade Whitson - personal best in the triple jump of 34-6 a 4.5 inch improvement.
    • Damon Lewis - personal best in the 800 meters of 1:59.56 a 1.95 sec. improvement.

     

    Overall the teams placed:

     

    JVB - 5th out of 15

    VB - 7th out of 15

     

    The track teams will be off during spring break, but will pick back up with competition on Friday Mar. 24 in Wylie.

     


    The Jackets traveled to the Carl Norris Relays at Mesquite's Hanby Stadium.   Despite a very cloudy day, the kids had a very productive day, bringing home a lot of hardware and new personal best as well.  

    Overall the teams placed:

    JVB - 1st Place (TEAM CHAMPIONS)

    VB - 3rd Place


    Saturday (2-25/17) the Jackets participated at the McKinney Boyd Bronco Relays.  The weather started out a little bit on the chilly side, but eventually became quite pleasant.  This was a very competitive meet that had up to 14 - 18 teams in each division.    The format of this meet is a little different from what the kids have or will experience throughout the season, but we did come away with some good evaluations and a few kids did set some new Personal Best performances.  

    Overall the teams placed:

     

    JV - 6 out of 14 teams

    Varsity - 13 out of 16 teams

    Yesterday the Jacket's Track Teams competed in the first meet of the year at Wilkerson Sanders Stadium.  Overall we had great weather, and we had several good performances for the first meet of the season.

    Overall the Jackets:

    • Varsity Boys - Placed 4th
    • JV Boys - Placed 2nd

      Next Saturday (2/25/17) we will be competing in McKinney at the McKinney Boyd Bronco Relays.

     



    2016

    The RHS Jackets traveled to Copperas Cove to take part in the Area 11-6A vs. 12-6A meet.

     

    We sent 7 boys represented in 5 events.

     

    • Clark Norris – 2nd in Pole Vault 15′” (Tied PR) Qualified for Regionals
    • Damon Lewis – 6th in the 1600 and 8th in the 3200.
    • Jose Olivares – 7th in the 3200
    • Caleb Estes – 5th in Discus
    • Alston Orji – 7th in Discus
    • Noah Sewell – 8th in 110 Hurdles
    • Cole McCrary – 5th in Pole Vault 13’6″ (New PR)

     

    The boys team will be represented at Regionals by senior Clark Norris in the Pole Vault.  I am proud of all of the boys achievements this season.  If you see any of those, congratulate them and wish Clark the best of luck at Regionals where he is trying to punch his ticket to the state meet in Austin.
