Program Descriptions:

Pre-Kindergarten

• The district offers the Pre-Kindergarten program for eligible students at no cost to the parents

• A child is eligible for enrollment in Pre-Kindergarten if the child is at least four years of age on or before September 1 and is:

  • Unable to speak or comprehend the English language;

  • Educationally disadvantaged based on income; or

  • Homeless, as defined by federal law

  • Child of an active duty member of the United States Armed Forces

  • Child of a member of the United States Armed Forces who was injured or killed while serving on active duty

Head Start

• The district offers the Head Start program for eligible students at no cost to the parents

• A child is eligible for enrollment in Head Start if the child is at least three or four years of age on or before September 1 and is:

  • Educationally disadvantaged based on income; or

  • May have special needs; or

  • Unable to speak or comprehend the English language; or

  • Homeless, as defined by federal law

Tuition-Based Pre-Kindergarten

• The district offers the Tuition-Based Pre-Kindergarten program for students who may not qualify for the state required Pre-Kindergarten program

• Students must be four years of age on or before September 1

• Parents are responsible for the tuition costs:

  • $100 non-refundable registration fee (deducted from the September payment)

  • $2,060 per year or

  • Monthly payments of $229.00 beginning in September through May

• Application Process:
  Take required documentation to the RISD Parent Center
  Complete the Pre-Kindergarten application
  The District will determine if your child is eligible for the program
  

• Register at the RISD Parent Education Center

Documents Required to Register:

• Birth Certificate

• Immunization Record

• Social Security Card (Child)

• Proof of Residence (Utility bill – water, gas, electric – with name and address, Lease Agreement, Builder’s Contract with completion date

• Driver’s License of parent or legal guardian enrolling student

• Proof of Income (current 1040) required for Pre-Kindergarten, Head Start, Early Head Start

• Military documentation

Early Childhood programs are currently located on the following elementary school campuses. Programs may be moved due to enrollment and the needs of the district.
