Walk The Line Auditions! May 31, 2017
Walk the Line is a Nationally recognized A Cappella group composed of 12-18 singers. Their music is performed completely without instruments, featuring a vocal percussionist (beatboxer), dedicated bass, background vocals, and soloists. They perform mostly commissioned works written just for them and compete in the International Competition for High School A Cappella.
In 2016-17, they won the Southwest Quarter-Finals, Southwest Semi-Finals, and were one of 8 groups to compete at the National ICHSA competition in New York City.
Auditions are May 31, 2017, and callbacks are June 1, 2017 for next year’s group. Summer rehearsals, a full year commitment and intensive tour/competition schedule are required to be a part of this group.

North Texas Percussion Festival
The Rockwall High School Percussion Ensemble competed in the North Texas Percussion Festival at Forney High School. The ensemble went up against some of the absolute best percussion ensembles in the DFW area, and were adjudicated by some of the most well known percussionists in the world! Out of 17 schools that competed in the Large Ensemble category, we finished in the top 5 with a 5th place finish! This is a significant event for us since RHS percussion students have never competed in a competition of this caliber!

Rockwall ISD provides a high quality fine arts education that is designed to support academic, social, emotional, and creative development. This goal is achieved through a comprehensive performing and visual arts curriculum that provides a wide range of learning experiences and performance opportunities.
Fine arts education in Rockwall ISD begins in Kindergarten and continues through the high school years. In each K-6 elementary school, certified, degreed art and music specialists teach students. In the fifth grade, students may choose orchestra, and in sixth grade all elementary students may choose from band, orchestra, choir, or art as their fine arts elective. At the middle school (7-8), students may choose band, orchestra, choir, and/or theater as their fine arts elective. Fine arts courses in high school include band, orchestra, choir, theatre, dance, and piano lab.
Multi-Cultural Visual Arts Competition
Please congratulate the following students from Rockwall High who won the following:
Best of Show ..... Bridget Winson 9th Grade
1st Place..... Kelsie Brouillette 9th Grade
3rd Place.....Karen Rodriguez 9th Grade
Rockwall High School won three of the five ribbons awarded at the Multicultural Event.
Also the performance directed by Leia Browning's Choral group was outstanding - all sung without background music. They created the music of the rainforest with rhythm and movement. The RHS dance ensemble was equally fantastic especially the exceptional performance by Tatum Graham.
Two Students make it to the final round of competition.
Rockwall High School had 2 very talented singers make it to the final round of competition this past Saturday at TAMU-Commerce:
- Logan Lynskey
- Makenzie Baird
They began the process in July and they must pass through the Region, Pre-Area, and Area contests to make the final cut for the All State Choir. Although Logan did not earn a seat in the choir, we are extremely proud of him for making it to the final round, and for all his hard work preparing for the auditions!
Makenzie Baird is 2nd Chair in the Soprano 1 section, which is incredibly competitive! She will travel to the Texas Music Educators Association Convention next month to rehearse with all of the finest student musicians in the state and will give a concert on Saturday, Feb 11th.
Makenzie is a member of our Chorale and Walk the Line A Cappella Group and is a Stingerette here at RHS. She is a true “triple threat” and hopes to continue in the arts in college. Please congratulate her for earning the highest individual achievement in the choral arts for the state of Texas!
