Mission Statement:
Health Services in Rockwall Independent School District believes that the school
nurse is an integral part of the educational team and that learning is directly
related to the health status of the student. The mission of Health Services is
to support the nurse in the promotion of wellness for students and staff; to
assist in the identification and management of health related barriers to the
educational process; and to establish a safe and healthy school community where
students and staff will be encouraged in the development of life-long skills to
become self-managers and self-advocates for their own health.
The Definition of School Nursing: "School
nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that
advances the well being, academic success, and life-long
achievement of students. To that end, school nurses facilitate
positive student responses to normal development; promote health
and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems;
provide case management services; and actively collaborate with
others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self
management, self advocacy, and learning." This definition was
adopted at the NASN Board of Directors meeting in Providence,
Rhode Island in June 1999 |
